A German title, *Dampf-Eilwagen auf der Eisenbahn*, calls this a steam express on the railway between Liverpool and Manchester. Published in Karlsruhe by J. Velten in 1831, the sheet shows two views of passenger trains, one with enclosed coaches and one with open cars. The Liverpool and Manchester Railway had opened in 1830 as one of the first railways to carry passengers between two major cities by steam, so a German printer's interest in it shows how quickly the new technology was reported abroad. The open cars are worth noting, since they show how early passengers rode in the open air.
