Here the subject is a racing track inside Madison Square Garden in New York, an arena that hosted indoor sporting events for much of the early twentieth century. The record gives no date, but the Bain News Service, which covered New York news during those years, was active when the building's track drew large crowds. Indoor bicycle racing, especially long multi-day events, was a major draw there, and the banked wooden surfaces of such tracks shaped both the speed of the riders and the spectators' view. The glass negative format reflects the large-format photography common in that era.
