Tucked against a wooded hillside near Cherry Valley, this engraving shows a single log cabin set apart from the open ground around it, a rustic detail that distinguishes it from the broader views of the Delaware Water Gap region on the same board. Engravings like this one circulated widely in the nineteenth century, when printmakers supplied travelers and armchair readers with images of the scenic river country of eastern Pennsylvania. Such views often emphasized the simple dwellings of settlers as evidence of rugged frontier life, so the cabin here stands as a reminder of how early residents shaped the landscape.
