Its title, "In service for the girls of the world," sets this poster apart from the many wartime appeals the YWCA produced, because it speaks to young women across the globe rather than to one town or campaign. The title credits Neysa McMein, an illustrator best known for her magazine covers and magazine illustrations. During and just after World War I, the YWCA ran hostess houses, canteens, and housing for women working in war industries and military towns, and posters like this one promoted that wider work. The bright color reflects the organization's public relations effort of the period.
