Printed in Welsh, this poster carries the line "Anibyniaeth sydd yn galw am ei dewraf dyn," which translates roughly as "Independence calls for its bravest man." The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee produced a series of posters in several languages during the First World War, and this Welsh-language version was aimed at men in Wales who might respond more readily to an appeal in their own tongue. Its London imprint and 1916 date place it in the period when Britain was turning from voluntary enlistment toward conscription, which became law that year.
