Park & Tilford was a New York grocery and wine merchant whose name appeared on whiskey advertising for much of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and this piece leads with the firm's own claim of "Fine Whiskies Since 1840." That date places the company among the older liquor sellers in the United States, and the ad reflects a time when brand names on bottled spirits were still building trust with buyers who had long bought whiskey by the barrel or from the cask. Advertisements of this kind usually leaned on age, purity and reputation, since the period had few federal standards for what a bottle contained. Worth noticing is how the wording makes heritage the selling point rather than any particular recipe.
