The Pioneer Home of Abraham Lincoln, as the title names it, is the log cabin type of dwelling associated with the Lincoln family's frontier life, and it stands within the grounds of Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in southern Indiana. The Lincolns moved to this area in 1816, when Abraham was seven, and the family spent their years here clearing land and building a modest homestead in the Indiana woods. Abraham's mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, died in 1818 and his father, Thomas, later remarried, so the setting is closely tied to the hard early years that shaped the future president.
