A campaign-era lithograph of Abraham Lincoln, issued under the banner "Our Next President," captures him as a candidate rather than as the sitting president he would soon become. Portraits like this one circulated widely during the 1860 election, when printed images of nominees were a common way for voters to put a face to a name. The gallery's Landmarks board ties the piece to the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield, Illinois, where Lincoln lived with his family from 1844 until he left for Washington in 1861. Worth noticing is how the print presents a self-made lawyer and former Illinois legislator to a national audience at the moment his political future was taking shape.
