The title of this hand-colored lithograph appears in both French and Spanish, a sign that the New York publisher Nathaniel Currier wanted to reach buyers beyond English speakers. The Sacred Heart of Mary is a Catholic devotional subject, and the print dates from the years before Currier took James Ives into partnership in 1857. Its color was added by hand after printing, so each sheet could differ slightly from the next.
