Two boxers, Jimmy Dunn and Johnny Kilbane, are named in this picture's caption, which is the detail that sets it apart from other pictures of prizefighters. Kilbane, a Cleveland fighter, held the featherweight title for much of the 1910s, a period when boxing drew large crowds and its champions were often photographed. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century. The caption title is unverified, so the exact occasion and date remain uncertain.
