Henry and Clare Booth Luce are shown at home on a sofa, with a portable radio nearby and a cocker spaniel keeping them company. Henry Luce had founded Time in 1923 and launched Life in 1936, while Clare had already won fame as a playwright with *The Women* that same year. Around 1941, with war raging in Europe and the United States debating whether to enter, many families gathered around their radios for the latest news, which makes the set here a telling detail. The relaxed domestic scene offers a glimpse of two people who were otherwise very much in the public eye.
