The name "Editha" is the only personal detail the record gives for this c1903 portrait, which is printed as a cyanotype, a process that produces its distinctive blue tones by exposing iron-salt-coated paper to sunlight. The print was made from a mammoth plate, a large-format negative that captured fine detail across its roughly 16-by-20-inch image. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued many views and portraits in this period, registered the picture for copyright, and the Library of Congress later received a copy from the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
