This color lithograph, titled *Grande Manifestation Nationale* (large national demonstration), is tied to a specific building: the cathedral of Reims, along with the fires that burned in the city during the war. German shelling and fire in 1914 severely damaged Notre-Dame de Reims, and the cathedral became one of the most widely recognized emblems of wartime destruction in France. A poster printed in 1919, as the peace settlement was being debated, would have helped rally public feeling around those losses and the reconstruction that followed.
