Cover art for a Spanish-language edition of *Spalding's Official Base Ball Guide*, issued in March 1913 by the American Sports Publishing Company in New York, this color lithograph carries the name of Albert Goodwill Spalding, the former Chicago White Stockings pitcher who became a sporting goods magnate. The guide was an annual reference for the game, and its catalog-style cover shows players and baseballs. A Spanish-language version reflected how far baseball had spread into Cuba, Mexico and other parts of Latin America by the 1910s. The print offers a look at how American baseball was marketed abroad in the years before the sport became deeply rooted across the region.
