The Cleveland team in this 1921 panorama is identified by its title as the club of the American League, and the caption's "Worlds Champions" label points to the 1920 season, when Cleveland won the American League pennant and then took the World Series over the Brooklyn Robins. That was the franchise's first championship in the modern World Series era, and the team's star shortstop Ray Chapman, who died after being struck by a pitch that August, is remembered as part of that squad. Panoramas like this one were a popular way to record a team, with the players posed in rows across a wide frame.
