The Cleveland Baseball Club of the 1920 American League season is captured here as a team portrait, the kind of group panorama that teams and photographers commonly produced in that era. 1920 was a landmark year for the club: it won its first American League pennant and went on to win the World Series that fall, the franchise's first championship in the modern World Series era. The season is remembered too for the death of shortstop Ray Chapman, struck by a pitch in August, which made it one of the most somber years in the game.
