The map shows the Tallapoosa River bend in present-day Alabama, where Creek warriors known as the Red Sticks built a log breastwork across the neck of a peninsula in early 1814. Andrew Jackson's army attacked that fortified line on March 27, 1814, and the defeat broke Red Stick resistance in the Creek War. The Treaty of Fort Jackson followed that August, requiring the Creek Nation to cede millions of acres. The battlefield is now preserved as Horseshoe Bend National Military Park.
