This silkscreen poster advertises a 1936 natural history of birds, *Birds of the World*, which promised 100 candid photographs of its subjects. Its featured birds are pelicans and toucans, two species whose bold shapes suit a poster. The work was issued under the Works Progress Administration's poster program, which the federal government ran during the Depression to employ artists and to promote public projects and publications. The Federal Writers Project sponsored the book, so the poster doubles as a record of how the New Deal publicized its cultural output. The attribution to Sidney Jacobson is given in the record.
