Uncle Sam stands at a blackboard in this 1917 color lithograph, turning a chalked list into an honor roll and asking women directly, "Has he registered your name for service?" Printed in Philadelphia by the Edgell Company for the Civilian Service and Labor Department, it directs viewers to sign up at branches of the Pennsylvania Division of the Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense. That committee coordinated women's volunteer work during the First World War, and the poster shows how wartime recruiting reached the home front as well as men in uniform.
