Keep 'em flying" is the line that sets this cartoon apart from other wartime Flag Day images. Drawn in June 1942, six months after the United States entered the war, it urges readers to keep the Allied flags up on the June 14 observance. Uncle Sam and John Bull, the familiar figures for the United States and Britain, appear together as a shorthand for the partnership that guided the Allied war effort. The record suggests it was probably published in the Washington *Evening Star*, a daily that ran many editorial cartoons on the war and home-front mobilization.
