Calling on Parisians to buy into the Liberation Loan, this poster promotes the last great French war bond issue of the conflict, launched in the autumn of 1918. The loan's name reflected hopes of freeing the northern departments still under German occupation, and it asked ordinary citizens to finance that push with their savings. The Banque Alleaume, a Paris bank, is named as the place to subscribe. Campaigns like this treated lending to the state as a patriotic duty, a reminder that much of the war's cost was carried by households and small investors, not only by government budgets.
