This color poster promotes *Sudden Fear*, the 1952 RKO thriller that paired Joan Crawford with Jack Palance, a young actor then rising in Hollywood. Crawford plays a wealthy playwright who discovers that her new husband, played by Palance, is plotting to kill her for her money. The film is a good example of the postwar noir style, with its shadowy urban settings and tense domestic suspense. Crawford's performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and the film is often remembered as one of her strongest late-career roles. The poster's bold color and the billing of its two stars reflect how studios marketed such pictures to audiences in the early 1950s.
