Few things say summer resort like a wooden swimming dock stretching out over the water, and this print shows one at Eagles Mere, a small borough in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. Eagles Mere grew into a popular retreat for vacationers in the early 1900s, drawn by its clear natural lake and its hotels and cottages. Docks like this one gave bathers and boaters a place to launch from and to rest between swims. The print is undated beyond the 1920 to 1950 range, but it captures the leisure culture of that era, when lakeside recreation was a central part of American summers.
