*Weighing fish*, a wood engraving signed and titled in pencil by M. Lois Murphy, takes the fish market as its subject, with the record listing fishmongers and markets among its themes. The print is usually dated to 1936 or 1937, when many American printmakers turned to wood engraving and social realism to record ordinary working life during the Depression. Its fine black-and-white lines give the scene a sense of texture and weight. The print was later shown in the Library of Congress exhibition *Life of the People*, which drew on the Ben and Beatrice Goldstein Collection.
