A 1917 color lithograph, this poster links the new American war effort directly to the movie camera, showing a soldier beside one under the heading "U.S. Official War Pictures." The United States entered the war in April 1917, and the federal government soon turned to film to show the public the war effort and build support for it. The Committee on Public Information, created that spring, coordinated much of the wartime publicity, and official war films reached movie audiences across the country. The poster was printed by The Hegeman Print of New York and carries the note "Pro-Patria," which signals the patriotic appeal behind the advertisement.
