This portrait shows Theodore Roosevelt seated in three-quarter length and turned to the left, a pose typical of formal studio work in the early 1900s. It was made by the photographer George Prince, whose copyright is noted in the record, and it appeared as the third plate in *The Cabinet and Senate of the McKinley Administration*, published in March 1901. That was the month Roosevelt took office as vice president, so the album captured him at the start of a term that would change dramatically within months, when he became president after William McKinley's assassination in September 1901.
