Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt, wife of former President Theodore Roosevelt, sits in three-quarter length, turned to the left, with two small children close beside her. The portrait dates to about 1914, a period when Mrs. Roosevelt was known to the public as much for her family life at Sagamore Hill on Long Island as for her husband's political career. The Library of Congress holds the print in its Prints and Photographs Division, and its registration with the U.S. Copyright Office places it among the family portraits that circulated widely in the years before World War I.
