This color caricature sets Franklin D. Roosevelt among birds, drawn as a bird himself and titled "Unitus Andguidus." It is numbered as Plate 1 in a series called "Birds of our time," which suggests a set of satirical portraits of public figures cast as birds. Caricature series like this were a popular way to comment on politics during the 1940s, when Roosevelt had been in office since 1933 and was still a polarizing figure. The print's date, around 1945, places it near the end of his fourth term, which ended with his death in April of that year.
