This 1921 holiday portrait is one of the photographs Alexander Graham Bell chose himself for the album that became the *Beinn Bhreagh Recorder* collection, a record of his family life at his estate in Nova Scotia. The subjects include Bell, who was 74 and would die the following year, along with his sons-in-law Gilbert H. Grosvenor, later editor of *National Geographic*, and botanist David Fairchild. Bell's own selection of the picture suggests how much he valued these gatherings, which he kept as a family record rather than as formal publicity.
