The title's call to "Fight, let's go!" sets this 1942 recruiting poster apart from the many other Navy images of the period, with its direct, upbeat appeal to join up. It was designed by McClelland Barclay, an illustrator who served in the U.S. Naval Reserve (USNR) during the war, and his stylized, glamorous figures were a hallmark of wartime advertising. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the Navy needed large numbers of recruits quickly, and posters like this one were displayed in post offices, storefronts, and public spaces to draw young men into service.
