The caption-card title "La Forge" is the only identifying detail here, and the Bain News Service recorded it without verification, so it may name a person, a business, or a place. The Bain News Service was a New York picture agency that George Grantham Bain founded around 1899, and it supplied newspapers with news photographs, portraits, and scenes of current events into the 1910s and 1920s. Its glass negatives, usually 5 by 7 inches or smaller, were quick to make and easy to file, which is why the collection holds so many images of people and events from that period.
