This 1935 ink drawing documents the Loew's Hippodrome in Baltimore, a theater on North Eutaw Street that had been built as a large vaudeville house before Loew's took it over and turned it toward motion pictures. By the mid-1930s, big downtown houses like this one were competing with newer cinemas, and drawings made for alteration or renovation work recorded their plans, sections and fittings. Because the record ties the sheet to the Hippodrome's theater subject group, it offers a useful view of how a Baltimore movie house was laid out in the Depression years, when studios and chains were still reshaping the city's entertainment districts.
