Downtown Baltimore's Howard Street once held a cluster of playhouses, and this 1921 ink drawing documents one of them: the Auditorium theater and Academy of Music, near the corner of West Franklin Street. As an architectural and engineering drawing, the sheet was prepared as a technical record of the building's layout and construction. Its subject headings also mark a period when motion picture houses were increasingly sharing the city's entertainment districts with live theater, so the drawing is useful for seeing how such buildings were arranged for audiences and performers alike.
