Leonebel Jacobs created this color offset poster, published by F.M. Lupton around 1918, and its title, "The fruits of victory," presents home-canned food as a reward of the war effort. It was produced for the National War Garden Commission, which urged Americans to grow vegetables and preserve their harvests so that more commercial food could go to American troops and Allied civilians. Canning was largely women's work in American kitchens at the time, and the poster ties that domestic labor directly to the national war effort.
