This print shows the Patent Office, the federal agency that examined and granted inventors' patents, and the building that housed it in Washington, D.C. The record names E. Sachse & Co. as the associated firm, a 19th-century lithography business known for architectural views, though the card does not confirm that the firm made this image. The Patent Office's Greek Revival building, designed largely by Robert Mills, was then home to a large collection of inventors' models, which made its public galleries a well-known sight. The print does not carry a recorded date, so its exact year of production remains uncertain.
