The only identifying detail in the record is the surname Farrar, which the Bain News Service noted on the negative or its caption card, and the catalog flags the title as unverified. The name may refer to Geraldine Farrar, the Metropolitan Opera soprano who became a popular film star in the 1910s, but the record does not confirm that. George Grantham Bain's agency operated in New York and supplied newspapers with pictures of theater, society and public figures, so this glass negative is best read as a working press image of its era. Its small format, five by seven inches or smaller, reflects the plates press photographers commonly used.
