A 1967 Easter Sunday concert at Philharmonic Hall, part of New York's Lincoln Center, brought gospel singer Mahalia Jackson to a hall better known for orchestras and opera. The poster was designed by Milton Glaser, one of the best-known graphic designers of the period, and printed by the Security Printing Company. Jackson, born in New Orleans in 1911, built a large following through her recordings and her gospel and spiritual performances, and she was one of the most celebrated voices of her era. The poster is a useful example of how Glaser handled color and lettering for cultural events in the late 1960s.
