Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, the Valencian novelist and politician, is the subject of this glass negative from the Bain News Service. Bain's studio photographed many visiting and newsworthy figures in the United States in the 1910s and early 1920s. Blasco Ibáñez was then well known abroad, especially after *The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse* became a bestseller and was adapted into a 1921 silent film. The record gives no date, and the title comes from unverified caption data, so the exact occasion of the sitting is unknown.
