Half Dome's sheer granite face rises above the valley floor in this winter view of Yosemite Valley, a season when the park is quieter than in summer. The card is a stereograph, printed as a pair of slightly offset pictures that produce a three-dimensional effect when viewed through a stereoscope. Keystone View Company, a major American publisher of these cards, issued it, and such cards were sold to households and schools in the 1920s to bring distant landmarks into the parlor. Its date of about 1926 places it in the later years of the stereograph's popularity, just before the medium gave way to illustrated magazines and movies.
