The name on this glass negative, K. Schindler, comes from caption information that the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its card, and the record notes that it has not been verified. George Grantham Bain founded his news photo agency in New York around 1899, and its staff sent pictures of politicians, performers, sports figures, and everyday news to newspapers across the country for roughly two decades. Because the Bain files were built on small glass negatives, many images survive without a confirmed date, so the sitter's identity and the occasion often remain uncertain.
