Little is recorded about this glass negative beyond its caption, which names F. Damrosch, most likely Frank Damrosch, the New York choral conductor and music educator. Damrosch led the Musical Art Society and founded the Institute of Musical Art, work that helped bring serious musical training to a wide public in the early twentieth century. The Bain News Service, which made and distributed the image, sold news photographs to newspapers, so the picture reflects the press demand for recognizable public figures of its era. The record gives no date, and the caption is noted as unverified, so the identification should be read with that caution.
