Rather than a portrait, this print preserves the handwriting of Franklin D. Roosevelt, reproduced as a photograph of his name in ink. Roosevelt served as president from 1933 until his death in 1945, and his signature appeared on an enormous range of documents, from laws and executive orders to personal letters and inscribed photographs sent to supporters. The caption card gives no date, so the occasion for this particular signature is unknown, but it reflects the wide public interest in a president's handwriting during the Depression and World War II.
