Mrs. Percy Procter appears on this glass negative under a name the Bain News Service recorded on its caption card, though the record itself notes that the title has not been independently verified. The sitter's name and the 1910 date are the main links to her life, so the picture is best read as an example of how the agency handled individual portraits in those years. Bain's photographers worked in a fast commercial trade in New York, sending plates like this one to newspapers and magazines, which explains why so many of these small negatives survive with handwritten identifications.
