The title names a man, Angelo Minghetti, though the record notes that the name comes from unverified data on the negative or its caption card, so the identity is best treated as provisional. The negative is a glass plate of 5 by 7 inches or smaller, the format Bain News Service used for much of its work. George Grantham Bain founded the New York agency around the turn of the twentieth century, and it supplied newspapers and magazines with pictures of public figures, news events and everyday city life until the early 1930s. Glass plates like this one were the working medium of press photographers of that era, so the collection gives a close view of how news pictures were made and filed.
