Few Christmas-season posters asked so directly for a headcount. This 1917 color lithograph urges viewers to "Come on" and help the American Red Cross reach 15,000,000 members by the holiday. R. Fayerweather Babcock designed it, and Walton & Spencer printed it in Chicago during the wartime push, when the Red Cross relied on mass enrollment as well as donations. The catalog also lists dogs and hats among its subjects, details that show how poster artists of the period used familiar, cheerful imagery to make a serious appeal feel personal.
