Tampa Bay is the subject of this hand-colored lithograph, the fifth in a set of eight *Views of Florida* issued in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1837 by T.F. Gray and James. The print belongs to a series of images of the Second Seminole War, which began in 1835 when the Seminole resisted removal to western lands. Tampa Bay was a key military center in the conflict, and the army's forts and camps there supplied troops operating across the peninsula. The print reflects the wartime interest that Eastern publishers had in Florida's military frontier.
