This 1932 poster promotes *Rain*, a film that pairs Joan Crawford with Walter Huston, who plays the zealous missionary Davidson, and Guy Kibbe. The story comes from W. Somerset Maugham's 1921 short story "Miss Thompson," which John Colton and Clemence Randolph adapted into a stage play in 1922. Set on the South Pacific island of Pago Pago, it follows a stranded woman whose confrontation with the self-righteous missionary drives the drama. Crawford's performance as Sadie Thompson was one of the major early sound-era roles in her career.
