The title on this glass negative names Kreisler, most likely the Vienna-born violinist Fritz Kreisler, though the Bain News Service recorded that identification without verifying it. Kreisler became one of the most recognized concert performers of his era, touring the United States widely in the early twentieth century and drawing large audiences to his recitals and recordings. Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with news and personality photographs, made negatives like this one for quick reproduction in print, so the image reflects the press interest in celebrated musicians of the time. The record gives no date, so the exact occasion remains unknown.
