The Natchez Trace Parkway is a long scenic road that follows much of the old Natchez Trace, a corridor of footpaths worn into the land by travelers, traders and Indigenous peoples long before the highway was built. This view, a curving lane lined with spring woodland and blooming redbuds, shows the parkway's design goal: a road that bends with the terrain and frames the seasons rather than cutting straight through them. The redbud's pink blossoms appear on bare branches before the leaves open, which makes early spring along the route especially striking. The parkway was developed by the National Park Service and opened in stages over several decades.
