This portrait isolates one Navajo man, shown head and shoulders, facing the camera with a blanket around his shoulders and a headband across his brow. The print is part of the Edward S. Curtis Collection and dates to about 1904, when Curtis was building his broader survey of North American Indian peoples. Curtis often arranged his sitters and their clothing for the camera, so the picture reflects his choices as much as everyday dress.
